Kia ora Spreydon Whānau,
Last week, it was amazing to see so many of our tamariki from Harakeke and Team Paretai achieve their personal goals during our water safety sessions.
A huge thank you to whānau who supported our tamariki throughout the water safety week, and to our kaiako and staff for ensuring everyone was able to experience success.
Seeing those big smiles made all the hard work entirely worth it!
A special thank you to all of the Team Mokihi whānau and families who came along to celebrate our ESOL programme and the wonderful learning taking place. We truly value your time, presence, and ongoing support of all our learners!
Eid Mubarak - Happy Eid to our families who celebrated Eid al-Adhac.
Today we had the privilege of welcoming a number of students and families into our school community at our Mihi Whakatau. It was another chance for our Kapa Haka to be seen and heard. They are continuing to go from strength to strength this year and we are very proud of what they have achieved in such a short space of time. The number of comments they have received from whānau who are waiting by the Hall on Wednesday afternoons is boosting their feeling of pride in what they are doing.
The Kapa Haka rōpū are looking forward to performing for you during our Matariki Celebration in week 10.
A reminder that our PTA Pizza orders are due next Wednesday. Thank you for continuing to support their fundraising efforts for our scooter track.

Last week, brains were put to the test as a group of our Year 5 and 6 tamariki took on the EPro8 challenge day in our School Hall!
The EPro8 programme is a fantastic opportunity for our senior tamariki to thrive under pressure, working together in teams to solve problems against the clock.
From the challenge day two teams are selected to represent Spreydon School in the Christchurch Epro8 inter school challenge days in 2026.

Extra Curricular Activities Success
We do enjoy sharing successes of our tamariki outside of the school, please feel free to email admin@spreydon.school.nz if you wish for our school community to acknowledge your child's success in our newsletter.

Unnamed items
This week Mr Hyland has added hooks to our lost property box. It has helped us hang up a huge amount of unnamed sweatshirts.
If you are missing any sweatshirts or drink bottles that have not returned home, please come and collect them from the lost property box in the office foyer.
Team Mōkihi have been busy taking every opportunity that comes our way!
Some of our Year 5 & 6 tamariki participated in our school EPro8 Technology Challenge and tested their innovation, creativity and teamwork.
A few students completed a Miniature Makers literacy programme with the Christchurch City Council Library, and were able to bring their narrative writing characters to life and Harakeke completed their Water Safety sessions at Pioneer and had a blast.
A huge thank you to all whānau who helped us at these sessions!

Matariki
This year we are looking forward to celebrating Matariki a few days earlier this year as the Matariki public holiday falls in the July term break.
On Thursday 25th June from 5.30pm - 7pm we are welcoming all whānau to come along to our school to share some kai, participate in some Matariki activities around our learning Hubs and watch a performance by our Kapa Haka rōpu and our school band.
Over the next few weeks there will be a range of Matariki activities for tamariki to participate in during our break times. This includes kite making, Matariki Art, library storytelling and Kī o Rahi on the field.
Whanau Conferences
On Wednesday 1st July and Thursday 2nd July we will be hosting whānau conferences for our families, students and kaiako. We look forward to these to celebrate learning that has been happening and focus on next steps.
Booking information will be coming out by the end of next week to allow whānau to book a timeslot.
Please note that appointment slots are limited.
We will be finishing lessons at 1.50pm on Wednesday 1st July to allow for us to have enough time to offer all whanau within each Homeroom to attend.
There will be supervision on Wednesday 1st July for those that require it until 3pm.
We ask that when you book you indicate if your child will be collected or require supervision until 3pm.
To ensure every student has the opportunity for a dedicated meeting, there is one interview slot allocated per student.
If your child has more than one parent or family member who wishes to attend the conference, we kindly ask that you can coordinate with one another to book a single, mutually suitable time so everyone can participate together. Thank you for your cooperation!

We are starting to see a spike of absences due to illnesses and adding in holidays during term time.
During our last fortnight 86% of our students having less than 5 days absence during term 2. This has dropped from 91% since our last newsletter.
It is often now with a few sick days added to a week or more of holiday during term that we see students move from good attendance to worrying.
We have gone from 8% of students who have had between 5 - 10 days absent to 13%.
At the start of next week we will be sending out student data records that we have for children who have now crossed over to worrying levels of absences (up to 10 days absences )
We are mandated to share the data with families when tamariki shift from good attendance to worrying or concerning. This is even if we are aware of the reason ( Illness with medical certificate or holiday during term time)
