Kia ora Spreydon Whānau,
This week we have started to feel the bite of the chilly mornings.
While many children make their way to school before 8.30am, please remember that tamariki who arrive before 8.30am are expected to wait outside the Hall.
The Hall eves do keep tamariki dry but not warm. It is concerning the number of children who are arriving without a jersey and or a jacket to keep them warm.
We would like to remind whanau that if your child is being dropped off to wait at the Hall for the 8.30am bell, please ensure they are wearing an extra layer of clothing during the winter terms.
Bright Colours Day
Thank you to everyone who supported our Hauora Council by wearing pink or bright colours to school last Friday.
We had a great day celebrating our tamariki who speak up, stand up and support each other.
Water Safety Sessions at Pioneer
This week, five of our Homeroom classes had a fantastic week undertaking water safety sessions at Pioneer Pool. We are very lucky to have such an amazing facility in our wider community.
Thank you to our whanau who supported our tamariki during the week.
Next week, Harakeke and Team Paretai will be having their water safety sessions.
We are working with Pioneer to look at extending our lessons in 2027. However this is dependent on available timeslots.
Support Staff Day
At Te Kura o Mōkihi, we are incredibly lucky to have an amazing group of staff called our support staff.
Last week, we celebrated these people who make our school such a wonderful place to be.
-
Our Admin Team: Kelly and Karen
-
Our Caretaking Staff: Mike and Blair
-
Our Wonderful Learning Assistants: Olivia, Carolyn, Michaela, Lyndal, Karen and Adele.
We truly appreciate the endless hard work, dedication, and vital support you provide alongside our tamariki and kaiako every single day!
Next week is a short week with our Staff Only Day on Friday 29th May followed by King's Birthday weekend.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and a reminder for Harakeke and Team Paretai tamariki that they will need their swimming togs, towel and goggles next week.

Extra Curricular Activities Success
We do enjoy sharing successes of our tamariki outside of the school, please feel free to email admin@spreydon.school.nz if you wish for our school community to acknowledge your child's success in our newsletter.

Suburbs Netball
Well done to all our players for representing our school and club so proudly. We look forward to continuing to learn, grow, and enjoy the season together!
We would love to welcome more tamariki to join our netball whānau.
Netball is a great way to learn new skills, make friends, stay active, and most importantly have fun.
Whether you are new to netball or have played before, everyone is welcome to come and give it a go!
Congratulation Juliet for playing your first netball game for the Spreydon Spirals and getting player of the day!
Suburbs Spreydon Sparks Netball has had two amazing games to start the season.
Our players have been working hard to learn new skills, build confidence on the court, and develop their understanding of the game.
We have also celebrated two Players of the Day, recognising the effort, determination, and positive attitudes shown during our games.
Player of the day goes to Sharolize as voted for by the whānau for encouraging other players and great ball skills.
Laviath showed fantastic enthusiasm and energy on the court today. His communication with teammates was outstanding, helping encourage and support the whole team.
Laviath’s interceptions and determined go-get-them attitude made a huge impact throughout the game. Awesome effort and teamwork!
Kenzie, Leila, Puawai, Azreal and Emily warmed up their singing voices to audition for the Junior Representative Choir for the Christchurch Schools Music Festival.
There were some nerves but they were well prepared and all agreed that the Music Festival team were really friendly and made it feel easy.
These students really shone as they supported each other through this experience and Mrs Hope was treated to a free show on the car rides to and from Avonhead School!
From Week 7 the School Choir of Year 5 and 6 students will be rehearsing weekly to prepare for our performance on Wednesday 4th November at the Town Hall. The Theme is Just Dream - Moemoeā noa! Save the date, and keep an ear out for us!

A reminder that next Friday 29th May we have our staff only day where we will be using one of the two Ministry of Education approved staff only days for the 2026 school year. This is to allow staff to engage in curriculum rollout training and planning.
We appreciate you finding alternative arrangements for your child on this day.

Attendance - How are we going?
We are still tracking positively with the number of bugs starting to appear over this term and the number of whanau who have been away during term time.
In the last two weeks we have continued to have tamariki arriving to school before 9am ready for the day.
This last two weeks we have gone down from 95% to 91% of tamariki attending above 80% of the time.
Thank you for working with us to make sure barriers to learning are addressed to make sure tamariki are able to be at school.

Hi everyone, my name is Hailey, and I’m a proud parent of three children at Spreydon School. I’ve been involved with the PTA for the past few years and have recently stepped into the co-chair role alongside Koren.
I originally joined the PTA because I wanted to support my children’s education and wellbeing, contribute to our school community, and stay connected with what’s happening around the school.
One of the things I’ve enjoyed most has been helping organise fundraising events, like pizza lunches, and working alongside such a great group of parents and staff. It’s been a fun, rewarding, and fulfilling experience.
If you’re interested in getting involved with the PTA, I’d love to have a chat, or you can leave your details at the school office. We’re always very grateful for any extra support with our fundraising events and activities.
