Kia ora Spreydon Whānau,

From casting to learning scripts and dances, our school has come alive with excitement for our upcoming performance of The Great Southern Spark.
The script is original, along with the characters, costumes, scenes, and set design. In the coming weeks, your child's homeroom teacher will share details regarding costume items or props needed for their part.

A reminder to save the date – Wednesday 23 September for the matinee and evening performances of our schoolwide production, The Great Southern Spark. All tamariki will be performing in both shows.

With a few fine days it has been great to see so many tamariki out at break times trying out some new equipment requested by our House Leaders and Ambassadors. Badminton racquets, padder tennis bats, high bounce balls and some volleyballs are just a few items that are very popular choices.

Congratulations to our two Epro8 teams for their efforts at the semi finals last week. They had a great morning challenging themselves against 10 other teams.

With winter sport finishing for many teams, thank you to our coaches, managers and supporters for their support over the season.

Ngā mihi nui,

Andrea and the Spreydon Team
Welcome to Peter and Tafari who have joined Team Mōkihi and to Emma, Eli, Anaira, Seoha, Saksham and Shivani who have started in Pūhara this week. We have enjoyed welcoming you all today as part of our Mihi whakatau this week.

Team Mōkihi has been completing inquiry learning around Simple Machines and Kiwi Innovation! Classes have conducted research, practised their note-taking skills and presented to their classroom.
We are now looking to the end of the term and busily preparing for our homeroom performances in our school production, The Great Southern Spark, as well as honing in on our running, jumping and throwing skills for our Term 4 Athletics Day.
While attendance is a priority, so is making sure children are well enough to attend.

Below are the new care options available to tamariki and their whānau as we experience high levels of sickness across our communities.

Online GP care now free for all under-14s

With lots of winter illnesses about right now, health services are experiencing very high demand. If you need to speak to a GP and can’t get in to your usual doctor or its after hours, Online GP provides a great option for accessing safe and quick care. The service is available from anywhere in the country, anytime day or night, and is now free for all under-14s.

Appointments usually take place through a video app or a phone call, and the service can prescribe medicine and send prescriptions to your nearest pharmacy.

It also provides another care option for rural communities, reducing the need to travel.

Road Safety

As part of our ongoing commitment to road safety and in response to feedback from our recent survey, we have contacted the School Travel Team at the Christchurch City Council and our Community Constable regarding increased traffic and speed on surrounding roads.

We have asked for a review of both Mathers Road and Hoon Hay Road traffic management. Some of your feedback has been:
Speed of cars in and around Mathers Road and Hoon Hay Road
The impact of traffic turning right into Hoon Hay Road from Mathers Road
Children not being visible when leaving Mathers Road exit
Parents parking in the accessible carpark - questions of eligibility and need to park there.
Parking in P3 for longer than allocated times and not allowing flow of traffic
Parking over and up driveways, limiting Road Patrol visibility.

How can you help support our tamariki arriving and leaving safely school?

Celebrating success

We enjoy celebrating the success of our tamariki with their activities.

We have a slight change of plans with the upcoming closure of Domain Terrace planned for late this week.

We'll be pushing this closure to next week, now going in place on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 September.

The closure will be in place on Domain Terrace between Lincoln Road and the entrance to the Village Health Medical Centre.
