Learning Support
At Spreydon School, we are committed to supporting all learners. Our dedicated team, including the SENCO, Deputy and Assistant Principals, teachers, and Learning Assistants, works in partnership with students, whānau, and specialists to provide an inclusive education.
Homeroom teachers adapt learning programmes to ensure every student experiences success, while some students have Individual Education Plans (IEPs), developed collaboratively with teachers, whānau, and professionals to guide progress and achievement.
We also work alongside external experts such as speech-language therapists, occupational and physiotherapists, psychologists, and other Ministry of Education services.
Learning Support at Spreydon
Our Learning Assistants (LAs) are a valuable resource. We currently have a number of part time LAs on our team and they are funded from various sources to support our learners. The funding is directed to be used with that student/s depending on the need for 1-1 or group based.
Sometimes people from outside agencies might recommend that your child has identified resources to support them (such as your GP or if you have had a professional report of a diagnosis).
Please note that school funding operates differently from health or private agencies. While an outside diagnosis helps inform our support strategies, it does not automatically guarantee government funding. We work directly with whānau to explore all available internal and external options for every child.
